Salt Lake CityTwo leading cancer specialists have been appointed to head the Intermountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at LDS Hospital. Finn Bo Petersen, M.D., who has authored and contributed to more than 150 scientific publications and book chapters on blood and marrow transplantation, has been named medical director of the program. Julie Asch, M.D., a leading transplant clinician who also specializes in pediatric hematology and oncology, has been named associate medical director. They will lead the program along with Intermountain Healthcare oncologist Clyde Ford, M.D. "Drs. Petersen and Asch are outstanding oncologists who are widely respected for their clinical knowledge and expertise in blood marrow and strem cell transplantation. We are thrilled to have them leading our program," says Tim Bricker, the program's administrative director. Dr. Petersen is one of the leading blood and marrow stem cell transplant specialists in the Intermountain West. For nine years he served on the faculty of the blood and marrow transplant program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Petersen previously served as medical director of the Utah Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. Prior to joining the Intermountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at LDS Hospital, Dr. Petersen served on the faculty member of the University of Utah School of Medicine's division of hematology and blood and marrow transplantation. Dr. Asch served on the faculty of the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine for six years. She completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology and in transfusion medicine from Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York and a fellowship in blood and marrow transplantation from the University of Utah. She was also a faculty member of the University of Utah School of Medicine's division of hematology and blood and marrow transplantation.
