Welcome to the Intermountain Blood and Marrow Transplantation program at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Blood and marrow transplantation has evolved over the past 20 years into a successful therapy for a variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases. Blood and marrow transplantation allows for safer use of radiation and/or combination chemotherapy to help cure many types of diseases that in the past would have not been curable.
Since the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program's inception in 1978 at LDS Hospital, over 600 adult patients have received transplants for a variety of malignant and non-malignant diseases.
The Intermountain Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program uses a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment. Outstanding care in the form of knowledgeable and qualified physicians, experienced registered nurses, nurse case managers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical coordinators, social workers, pharmacists and dietitians are an integral part of our program. The Intermountain Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program is committed to its referring physicians and encourages their participation.
Commitment. Patients will be seen in consultation within one week of the referral if they desire. The broad multi-disciplinary education from the very initial contact will set us apart from other centers. Every patient will be seen and examined by a stem cell transplant physician during every visit, both inpatient and outpatient. Patients will have an expert clinical coordinator, social worker and financial counselor assigned to them at the time of the initial referral. Our stem cell transplant physicians are available to referring physicians by pager or phone 24/7/365 to answer questions or discuss indications for transplant.
Our program focuses on superior patient care. We are among a select number of blood and marrow transplant programs that are associated with the Southwestern Oncology Group, Seattle Consortium Group, and International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry (IBMTR). Investigational protocols are also associated with the BMT Clinical Trials Network of the United States. The program is fully accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) as well as theNational Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), which provides stem cells for allogeneic transplants from fully or closely matched volunteer donors.
