LDS Hospital

LDS Hospital provides inpatient, as well as outpatient, nutrition services to patients throughout the Salt Lake Valley. These services include screenings, assessments and various educational opportunities. We are also involved in nutrition research to help aid in the recovery and overall health of our patients.

Our mission is to offer excellence in the provision of outpatient nutrition education to patients, clients, peers and other community members of the Intermountain Region. Our team of nutrition experts specialize in a variety of areas and offer individual counseling.

LDS, Cottonwood, and Alta View hospitals Nutrition Services treats both inpatients and outpatients through a variety of services.

    • Bariatric surgery and gastrointestinal disorders
    • Eating disorders
    • Celiac sprue
    • Food allergies
    • Renal and liver disease
    • Energy balance assessment
  • Fitness Institute Client Nutrition Counseling
  • Senior Clinic Patient Counseling
  • Home Health Nutrition Consults
  • Community nutrition education (i.e., health/wellness fairs)
  • Intermountain's Complimentary and Alternative Medicine Committee
Group nutrition education includes:
  • Weight Concepts: 16-week course led by a registered dietitian using an approach of nutrition education, exercise, and behavioral modification. The course also utilizes an exercise physiologist and social worker. This course is designed for those who need to lose weight or those wishing to improve their lifestyle.
  • Lap Band Surgery Support Group & Counseling: Weekly participation in a support group for clients who have had the Lap Band Bariatric surgery. Also, bimonthly one-on-one appointments are available to assess the nutrition status of clients one year out of surgery. Individual counseling is also offered.
  • Dayspring Counseling: Weekly nutrition classes taught to clients going through a drug and alcohol treatment program. The emphasis is on using nutrition as a tool to build physical health, as well as mental and emotional health. The overall goal is to decrease the rate of relapse and increase healthy life practices.
