Obstetrics / High-Risk Pregnancies
LDS Hospital's Maternal/Newborn program offers labor and birthing options provided by certified nurse midwives and board-certified obstetricians. Families and friends are encouraged to participate in the birthing experience. A wide range of options are available to the mother concerning pre-admission, birthing facilities, prenatal and postnatal support, and even lengths of stay and mother/ baby nursing care.
NICU
Physician services in the neonatal intensive care unit are provided by members of the Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, supplemented by a small group of private pediatricians with a special interest in neonatal intensive care. One of these physicians is always available in the hospital to provide delivery room resuscitation services as well as to care for patients in the neonatal intensive care unit.
Subspecialty pediatric consultants are readily available from the nearby Primary Children's Medical Center and the University of Utah.
Perinatal Center
The Perinatal Center at LDS Hospital and the hospital's Legacy Program provide a range of services for high-risk mothers that is unequaled anywhere else in the region. The Perinatal Center offers noninvasive antenatal testing and diagnostic ultrasound, as well as amniocentesis, percutaneous umbilical blood sampling, intrauterine fetal transfusion, fetal thoracentesis and fetal echocardiography. Legacy provides support for pregnant women who are at risk for preterm delivery.
