Agency of the Month - Lyman Fire Department, Lyman, Wyoming

Lyman Fire Department is an all-volunteer fire agency that serves the northeast corner of Uinta County, Wyoming. The department provides firefighting and first responder services in an area approximately 700 square miles, including 33 miles of I-80.

The department is located at 109 E. Lincoln St. in Lyman, Wyoming and houses fire, rescue and HAZMAT equipment. Twenty- four volunteer fire fighters and first responder EMT's also perform extrications, high-angle and confined space rescue, HAZMAT operations and wild-land fire fighting, in addition to their regular fire control and suppression duties.

The department has served their community since 1937 with distinction and dedication. Lyman is a city with a population of 1,800 people, not counting surrounding rural areas whom also rely on the Lyman Fire Department for critical services.

In May the department hosted a Landing Zone training course for surrounding agencies. About 35 fire fighters, EMT's, first responders and law enforcement officers attended the training, taught by Jodie Morgan and Pilot Rex Orgill. The training team had one of Life Flight's new Bell 407 helicopters to use in demonstrating patient loading/unloading and how to prepare patients for transport. The Lyman Fire Department has helped Life Flight crews on a number of accidents and medical emergencies over the years and consistently demonstrates a high level of expertise and dedication to their community.
