McKay-Dee Hospital

Our Facility & Technology

The Val & Ann Browning Cancer Center opened at McKay-Dee Hospital Center in March 2002. The center is northern Utah's most advanced cancer treatment center. The facility was designed for patient comfort and has state-of-the-art radiation oncology systems, such as the linear accelerator and the Ximatron.

The Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Foundation donated a linear accelerator with a multi-leaf collimator, a machine that treats cancer using laser beam technology. It sculpts the beam to the dimensions of the malignancy, destroying the tumor while limiting collateral cell damage.

The center also has a Portal Vision System that creates a real-time image of the tumor. The image is synchronized with the beam path, so that as the body moves the beam hits the target without damaging surrounding tissue.

Skin lesions can now be treated at McKay-Dee Hospital using a superficial x-ray therapy machine donated by The Annie Taylor Dee Foundation. The machine uses low energy doses of radiation to safely heal scar tissue and lesions on the surface of the skin.
