This is the third year for the Chocolate Extravaganza, started in 2004 by Star Quayle of Highland to remember what would have been her daughter Anna's first birthday. At 20 weeks, Anna Marie was diagnosed with anencephaly, an open neural tube defect that results in the deterioration of the brain. Star and her family enjoyed 11 unforgettable hours with Anna Marie. Star says she will never forget the time she was able to spend with her daughter nor will she forget the way she and her family were treated by the hospital, nurses and her doctor. Star's experience with the Utah Valley Regional's Common Bonds Parent Support Network and its bereavement program inspired her to begin the Chocolate Extravaganza to extend support to other Utah County families that have children in newborn intensive care or who lose a child at birth.

The Chocolate Extravaganza also includes a gala event February 9, featuring dinner, live and silent auctions, and a performance by Ryan Shuppe and the RubberBand. Local sponsors include BTH2, Daily Herald, Kim Brown & Associates, Novell, Printing Resource, and Web Audio Visual. For more information on the Chocolate Extravaganza or to make a donation to Newborn Intensive Care, contact the Celebration of Health Foundation at (801) 357-7600.
