Olympic Athlete Partnerships

An Intermountain/USSA partnership

High-level performance in today's world of elite athletics is much more than pure hard work. Developing the necessary skills is one thing, but coordination and management of the components involved to create and maintain performance at the highest level is the key in elite athletics. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) has formed a partnership with Intermountain and TOSH to coordinate and manage the Sports Medicine Program under the supervision of USSA.

Intermountain has agreed to provide approximately $2.5 million in cash and services through July 2002 to support USSA's Applied Sport Science Program. TOSH is designated as The Official Sports Medicine Provider for USSA and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams. The Institute for Sport Science and Medicine and IHC provide both medical and sport science services, including:

Physical exams
Field care (physical therapists and athletic trainers)
Medical evaluation and rehabilitation
Medical and pharmaceutical supplies
Athlete information management
Athlete fitness assessment
Athlete/coach education

In addition to services, Intermountain provides USSA with a support staff. The Intermountain support staff consists of a medical coordinator, a medical advisor, and an exercise physiologist and research coordinator.
