TOSH

The Training Room at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH) was designed specifically for the athlete. Our professional staff offers over 15 years experience in sport-specific injury evaluation and treatment. The staff provides expert advice and care aimed at returning the athlete to sport or recreational activity quickly and safely.

The Training Room is not just a concept, but an actual physical facility designed to put the athlete in an environment that will enhance their rehabilitation experience. The training room personnel extend into the community and bring the same level of expertise that can be received in the training room to your sport environment whether at a high school sporting event or the weekend city league recreational sports tournament.

Our staff of Certified Athletic Trainers have experience providing sports medicine coverage at all levels of sport competition and in a variety of competitive environments. Many of our staff members have been instrumental in the development of sports medicine coverage programs and have spent the last 4 years on teams developing the medical coverage program for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Free Injury Assessment
The free injury assessment is offered as a resource to coaches, parents and athletes regarding sports-related injuries. A certified athletic trainer or physical therapist skilled in evaluating athletic or recreational injuries conducts a free injury assessment. During the assessment the injury will be explained to the athlete and parent. Acute care instructions and options for further treatment, if necessary, will be discussed. Every effort will be made to help expedite the next step in the recovery process so a quick and safe return to sport or activity can be accomplished.

Call TOSH Physical Therapy and ask for a free assessment. If the athlete is a minor, a parent or legal guardian must accompany him or her. If the condition is a medical emergency, go immediately to the nearest emergency room. Walk-in assessments are accommodated. However, to receive prompt attention, call for an appointment.

Bumps and Bruises Clinic
Bumps and Bruises clinics are designed to care for athletic injuries sustained at any athletic practice or competition. Early, definitive diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries optimize the opportunity for quick and safe return to sport.

Athletic injuries will occur that require medical attention. Most often the injury is not life threatening and the injured area can be splinted and evaluated by a sports medicine specialist the day the injury occurred, or if after hours, on the next working day. A benefit to utilizing these services is that costly ER fees can be avoided.

Physicians trained in sports medicine will diagnose and appropriately treat the sports injury including: x-ray, casting, bracing, protective return to sport equipment and sports specific physical therapy as needed.

Bumps and Bruises clinics are offered at TOSH the day following a varsity football game and are offered to athletes of all sports. Should an athlete need to be seen at a time other than the scheduled Bumps and Bruises clinic, the athletic trainer assigned to your school or sport will facilitate an appointment with one of our sports medicine specialists.
