Michael L. Rhodes, MD - Director

Dr. Rhodes spent five years in practice at the Intermountain Layton Clinic in Layton, Utah as a family physician, and was a part-time faculty member at the McKay-Dee Family Practice Residency Program at McKay-Dee Hospital Center in Ogden, Utah. He has been a clinical instructor at the University of Utah School of Nursing and an assistant clinical professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine. Dr. Rhodes' professional interests include wilderness medicine and medical informatics. In his time off Dr. Rhodes enjoys mountain biking, working in his yard, working on his home computer or wandering the isles at COMPUSA.
David C. Flinders, MD - Assistant Director

Dr. Flinders has been a practicing family physician for 20 years at the Spanish Fork Clinic in Spanish Fork, Utah. During that time, Dr. Flinders spent five years as an associate clinical professor of nursing at Brigham Young University, and one year as president of the Mt. View Hospital Medical Staff in Payson, Utah. In 1994, Dr. Flinders served as president of the Utah Academy of Family Physicians. He is currently the Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice, and a fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 2000, he was honored with the Utah Family Physician of the Year Award.
Bob Anderson EdD, MA, M Div - Director
Behavioral Medicine and Bioethics
"Uncle" Bob received a bachelor's of arts degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master's of divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and master of arts in social service administration from the University of Chicago. He completed a doctoral program in health care education. After 20 years of service, Bob retired as Lt. Col. from the United States Air Force. During his career he received many honors and commendations for his work with victims of terrorism, disasters, and combat stress. Bob was one of the original behavioral scientists chosen to develop and teach the behavioral science and bioethics components in the Air Force Family Medicine Residency programs. His pioneering work lead to his selection as a national finalist for the Franz Inglefinger Primary Care Medicine Teaching Award. Bob enjoys time at home entertaining his golden retrievers.
Robert D. Armstrong, MD - Faculty

Residency - Silas B. Hays Army Community Hospital in Fort Ord, California
Dr. Armstrong served four years as a faculty member with the 36-resident Dwight D. Eisenhower Family Practice Residency in Fort Gordon, Georgia. During his service, his responsibilities ranged from director of Behavioral Medicine to teaching and clinic chief. He has been a private family practice physician in Manti, Utah for 14 years. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice and serves on the Sanpete Valley Hospital Executive Board. Dr. Armstrong currently directs our rural training. He enjoys hiking, backpacking and ham radio (N7XJ).
Karyn Springer, MD - Part-Time Faculty

Dr. Springer is a 2001 graduate of the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency Program. She remains involved in the program as part-time faculty. She is also the Regional Coordinator for Intermountain's InstaCare clinics. Dr. Springer's professional interests include pediatrics, orthopedics, acute care, office-based procedures and women's health. She enjoys spending her free time with her family, baking and "car" camping.
Nicole Clark, MD - Faculty

Dr. Clark is a 2002 graduate of the Utah Valley Family Medicine Residency and a former chief resident. Her professional interests include women's health, obstetrics, pediatrics, and general medicine. In her time off, Dr. Clark enjoys movies, walking the Provo River Parkway, and cooking. Dr. Clark has served as the Urban South Region Intermountain Healthcare Hospice Director.
Chris Wood, MD - Faculty

Residency - Waukesha Family Practice Residency Program associated with the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee
Dr. Wood completed a one-year fellowship in faculty development with an emphasis in Medical Informatics. After fellowship, he worked at the Waukesha Family Practice Residency program as an Assistant Director. While there, he lead a team of fantastic individuals to implement an electronic medical record (EMR), and helped develop an ASP model to roll it out to community physicians and integrate it with the local hospital inpatient system. He is board certified by the AAFP, and is an active member of the AAFP, and AMIA. He earned the Edward J. Lennon endowed clinical teaching award at the Medical College of Wisconsin and has received other awards for teaching, and innovations in medical informatics. In 2000 he was selected as one of the 'Best Doctors in America' by his peers. He enjoys doing anything with his son Zack, and wife Jennifer, as well as golfing, playing basketball, camping, mountain biking, cooking, implementing any sort of digital or electronic device or program, and he has a good sense of humor.

Dr. Marlin Christianson, MD was born in Gainesville Florida. He attended Timpview High school in Provo, Utah. and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1990 with a BS in Microbiology. He graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1994. Dr. Christianson completed a Family Practice Internship and residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California in 1997 and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship for Family Physicians in 1999-2000 at Florida Hospital in Orlando. He Spent 11 years as a physician with the Navy, stationed in Guam, San Diego and Naples, Italy. Dr. Christianson is married to LaDonn Robins. They have five children. He enjoys hiking, fishing, sports, science fiction and music.
Douglas Jones, MD

Dr. Jones is originally from Murray, Utah. He attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in International Relations. He received his medical degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and then completed a residency in Family Practice at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Following residency, he served as chief resident and completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of Arizona with emphasis in Pediatrics. Before joining the Residency faculty, he was in private practice in Utah County for nine years. Dr. Jones and his wife Nancy have four children. He enjoys skiing, gardening, hiking and camping.
Brent Rich, MD, ATC - Sports Medicine Director

Dr. Rich joined Intermountain Healthcare in July 2005 as the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director. Dr. Rich is a 1984 graduate of Brigham Young University and completed medical school at University of Washington in 1988. After finishing a family practice residency in Phoenix and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Michigan State University, he returned to Phoenix in private practice at University Sports Medicine. He had the honor of being the team physician for Arizona State University, the Arizona Diamondbacks and several high schools. He has been active in the United States Olympic Sports Medicine program since 1994 serving as a team physician for the U.S. Paralympic Games in Nagano, Japan in 1998, the U.S. Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia in 2000 and the Head Team Physician for the U.S. Paralympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2002. Dr. Rich and his wife Lori have four children Katie, K.C., Kristy and Cougar.
