Provo, UtahStan and Patty Reid have been selected as the recipients of the Intermountain Healthcare Beacon of Hope Award, presented by the organization's Utah County Governing Board, for their work with the Volunteer Care Clinic.Much of the success of the Volunteer Care Clinic is due to the leadership skills and commitment of the Reids, who have been involved with the clinic since it opened its doors more than 18 months ago. The clinic provides access to primary healthcare to uninsured individuals in Utah County. Patients are seen at the clinic on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. When the clinic is open, Stan, who is the clinic's director, can be found welcoming patients, translating, orienting new volunteers, completing paperwork for volunteers and trouble-shooting any number of problems. Patty, the clinic's nursing director, is not far away overseeing the volunteer nursing staff, helping physicians and providing care for patients. In addition to their work at the Volunteer Care Clinic, Patty has improved the lives of many Utah County residents as a nursing director for the Utah County Health Department and Stan served the community for decades as a devoted high school Spanish teacher."Stan and Patty Reid have given countless hours to the Volunteer Care Clinic and because of that, it has been successful. Their dedication to providing more access to healthcare for the uninsured is an example to us all," said Mark Robinson, vice chair of the Intermountain Utah County Governing Board. The Beacon of Hope Award is presented quarterly to an individual in Utah County who has made important contributions to better the health and well-being of the community. Nominations for the award can be made to the Communications office at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center at 357-7207.
