Provo, UtahConstruction on the new Utah Valley Outpatient Center will begin in November at Intermountain Healthcare's Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. The four-story building will be located on the northeast corner of the hospital's campus and will be home to some of the busiest outpatient services which will provide increased convenience for patients needing same-day surgery and imaging services.

"The trend in healthcare is for more and more care to be delivered in an outpatient setting. This new facility will be a great addition to the Utah Valley Regional campus. Outpatient imaging work will be done in the building, which means much greater convenience for patients coming in for things like an x-ray or MRI. It will have well-situated access to nearby streets and to our new parking terrace, so patients and visitors will be able to get in and out quickly," said Mary Ann Young, hospital administrator.

The new imaging area will be located on the first floor of the 91,000-square-foot building and include digital mammography, general digital x-ray, ultrasound, a 64-slice CT scanner, MRI and future space for a PET/CT scanner. Laboratory services will also be located on the first floor while rehabilitation and Utah Valley Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine will take up much of the second floor. Same-day surgery, with six new operating rooms, will be on the fourth floor, while the third floor will have room for medical office space and future medical specialties.

"Our county has seen tremendous growth in the past five years and that will only continue. This new building will help us continue to provide services to the growing number of Utah County residents in an convenient and efficient manner," said Young.

Completion of the new building is set for December 2007 and costs are estimated at about $39 million. Big D Construction is the contractor for the project, which was designed by HKS Architects.

In conjunction with this outpatient services building, the hospital is also working on a new three-level parking terrace. When completed in the Spring of 2007, the terrace will have 571 parking spaces. Costs for this project are approximately $11 million.
