Utah Valley Regional Medical Center

These educational classes will help expectant mothers and families prepare for the exciting arrival of a newborn baby. All classes are taught by nurse educators at American Fork Hospital, Orem Community Hospital and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center so you can select a location that is convenient for you.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. For a current listing of class dates, please click on the link below. Register early in your third trimester - around 26 to 28 weeks - for the best choice of classes and options. It is recommended that you take a class that will finish three-four weeks before your due date. Payment is required prior to attending your first class.

American Fork,

Utah Valley Regional 		$60

This class is for first-time moms who are planning to have an epidural and should be taken early in the third trimester. You should arrange to finish this class 3 to 4 weeks before your due date.

Topics covered include:

  • Discomforts of late pregnancy
  • Hospital policies and tour
  • Admitting
  • Labor stages
  • Recovery
  • Limited breathing and relaxation
  • Postpartum
  • Feeding options
  • Infant care
If you are on Medicaid you will need to notify us when you call to register. Partners are invited and highly encouraged to attend.
Prenatal duo 3 1/2 hrs. once a week for 2 weeks

Utah Valley Regional		 $60

New sessions are held every month. This class is a condensed version of the four-week Prenatal Class listed above. You should arrange to finish this class 3 to 4 weeks before your due date.

Topics covered include:

  • Discomforts of late pregnancy
  • Hospital policies and tour
  • Admitting
  • Labor stages
  • Recovery
  • Limited breathing and relaxation
  • Postpartum
  • Feeding options
  • Infant care
At the time of registration you will also need to know which breastfeeding class you want to take. The class is included in the cost but is held on a separate night. If you are on Medicaid you will need to notify us when you call to register. Partners are invited and highly encouraged to attend.
Prenatal seminar 6 1/2 hrs. once a month (on a Saturday)

This class is a condensed version of the four-week Prenatal Class listed above. You should arrange to finish this class 3 to 4 weeks before your due date.

Lamaze class Once a week for 4 weeks

New sessions are held once a month. This class is for women planning to have an un-medicated birth and should be taken early in the third trimester. You should arrange to finish this class 3 to 4 weeks before your due date.

  • Breathing techniques and relaxation for natural childbirth using no epidural
  • General prenatal information
  • Labor stages
  • Postpartum
  • Feeding options
  • Infant care
A hospital tour is not included in this class but students are welcome to schedule a tour at the time of registration. THE COACH MUST ATTEND THIS CLASS. The cost of this class is not covered by Medicaid.
Prenatal breastfeeding class 2hrs. once every 6 weeks

This class is included in the Prenatal Duo and Prenatal Seminar Classes.

Those taking the four-week Prenatal Class do not need to register for this class. Breastfeeding instruction is taught the last week of that class.

If you are taking the Prenatal Duo or Prenatal Seminar, this Breastfeeding Class is included at no extra charge; however, separate registration is required. This class is highly recommended for all moms.

  • Common temporary nursing problems
  • How to prevent nursing problems
  • How to overcome nursing problems
This class concentrates on helpful advice and factual information and builds your confidence that breastfeeding will work for you and your baby. Partners are invited and highly encouraged to attend.
Breathing and relaxation class 2 hrs. once every other month

Utah Valley Regional		 $25 This class is for anyone who feels they would like some extra breathing and relaxation techniques to use during labor and should be taken in the seventh or eighth month. Partners need to attend the class
Prenatal refresher class 2 hrs. once every other month

This class is for moms who have delivered a baby before and should be taken in the seventh or eighth month.

  • Labor & delivery techniques
  • Policies & procedures
  • Hospital Tour
  • Question and answer session
Partners are invited and highly encouraged to attend.
Sibling class 1 hr. $20*

Big brothers and sisters are invited to come and join the fun and excitement while celebrating the upcoming birth of the new baby. This is a one-hour class that should be taken by siblings, as close to the due date as the mom feels comfortable.

*The cost for this class is $5 for each child or $20 for a family.
OB (obstetric) tours 1 hr. 2x each month at 6:30PM

Utah Valley Regional		 Free

The tours are designed to help you become familiar with the obstetric area of the hospital in preparation for the birth of your baby. It will guide you through where to check in, birthing rooms, maternity rooms, and the nursery. These tours are free of charge, but you must reserve your spot.
