    Get Those Vegetables Planted Soon

    Get Those Vegetables Planted Soon

Late spring is the ideal time to get vegetables planted

It is important to plant your vegetables at the right time of the year. Your Tender and Very Tender vegetables should be planted as soon as possible for a successful harvest.

    Tender vegetables include:

    • Celery
    • Cucumber
    • Dry bean
    • New Zealand spinach
    • Snap bean
    • Summer squash
    • Sweet corn

    Very Tender vegetables include:

    • Cantaloupe
    • Eggplant
    • Lima Bean
    • Pepper
    • Pumpkin
    • Tomato
    • Watermelon
    • Winter Squash

Tender vegetables should be in the ground by June 1, and Very Tender vegetables should be planted by June 10. There is some wiggle room with this, as these are suggested vegetable planting dates, but it is important to get them in right away.

Carrots can still be planted by seed, as can dry beans, lima beans, snap beans and corn, as long as they are planted soon. At this point in the season it would probably be best if other vegetables were already started from a nursery, garden center or store. Purchase the vegetables you want and then transplant them into your garden.

Whatever veggies you decide to plant and grow, get started soon to enjoy a bountiful harvest of nutritious vegetables this summer and fall.
