    Advice from Local Moms:
    1. Every person and pregnancy is unique so try different approaches and see what is most effective for you. What works for some moms might not work for others. Remember, consulting with your doctor first is always a good idea.
    2. Learn what triggers your nausea and try to avoid those foods, smells, or activities.
    3. Avoid an empty stomach. Eat small meals and snacks throughout the day. Some moms even recommended eating a small snack before getting out of bed in the morning.
    4. Your body knows best. Eat whatever appeals to you at the time or in the words of some of our moms, “whatever doesn’t sound disgusting.”
    5. Helpful foods: anything peppermint or ginger, citrus-flavored candies and drinks, mild foods like saltine crackers, graham crackers, or toast.
    6. Sucking on hard candies or mints. Many moms found relief from sucking on Preggie Pops & Drops.
    7. Stay hydrated! Sipping cold water, ginger ale, Sprite, or Gatorade helped local moms. You can try chewing on ice too.
    8. Find motivation. One mom, who worked as a school teacher, used this motto to help her get going in the morning: “Get up, dress up, and show up. And if you still feel sick, you can go home.”
    9. Be prepared for emergencies. When you are out and about, identify where the bathroom/garbage cans are just in case. Several moms said they always have a bag or bowl on hand in case of emergencies.
    10. Always try to get enough sleep and rest throughout the day, if needed.
    11. If your nausea is severe, you can talk to your doctor about anti-nausea medications like Zofran or Diclegis. Other moms suggested over-the-counter options like Unisom and Vitamin B6, as well as Tums and motion sickness bands. Again, consult with your doctor first. He or she can help you determine the best option for your pregnancy.
    12. Unique foods that helped some of our moms: apples, carrots, lemon muffins, eggs, hot cocoa with French vanilla creamer, plain baked potatoes, potato chips and french fries, grapes, sharp white cheddar cheese, and otter pops.
