More serious situations are often best treated with an in-person visit. If this happens, your Connect Care provider will refer you to the appropriate facility, and you will not be charged for the Connect Care visit.

Connect Care also works to reduce the over prescription of antibiotics. Though antibiotics are sometimes effective in sinus infection treatment, it’s often unnecessary and can contribute to the issue. An examination by a Connect Care provider can determine the suitability of antibiotic treatment.

    Common Cold

Children’s participation in childcare, school, and sports make them susceptible to the common cold. It can occur at any time of the year and is often a miserable experience for parents and children alike. With Connect Care, parents can easily and efficiently receive an evaluation of their child’s symptoms.

    Cough

While often a symptom of the common cold, a cough can also be related to serious illnesses including croup, asthma, or pneumonia. Through Connect Care, parents can determine the nature of their child’s cough and receive appropriate treatment.

    Ear Pain

Ear pain is a leading complaint among young children. Connect Care providers can assess vital signs and determine if the pain is a result of external causes including trauma, swimming, hot/humid weather, allergic reactions, or exposure to sun or cold. Patients will then be given appropriate treatment or referred to an in-patient examination. Due to limitations in performing the typically necessary ear drum evaluation via Connect Care, a full ear pain diagnosis is best determined in-person.

    Sinus Pain and Pressure

Connect Care offers excellent support for children experiencing sinus pain, pressure and discharge. Through a video examination and evaluation of the history of the illness, providers can provide a diagnosis and determine the best treatment.

Connect Care is not right for your child if:

They’re experiencing emergency symptoms: Connect Care is not intended for treatment of emergency medical problems. The American College of Emergency Physicians identifies several symptoms that should lead to evaluation in the closest emergency department. If your child is experiencing any of the following, please call 911 or go to the ER:

    • Difficulty breathing, shortness of breath
    • Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure lasting two minutes or more
    • Fainting, sudden dizziness, weakness
    • Changes in vision
    • Difficulty speaking
    • Changes in mental status: unusual behavior, difficulty walking
    • Any sudden or severe pain
    • Uncontrolled bleeding
    • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
    • Coughing or vomiting blood
    • Signs of dehydration – decreased wet diapers, dry mucus membranes, cool extremities
    • Recent dental procedures
    • Suspected broken bones
    • Suicidal or homicidal feelings
    • Unusual abdominal pain

Your child is an infant (age 0-90 days): All infants are required to have an in-person evaluation

Your child is a young baby (age 3 months- 12 months): The symptoms of young babies are often misleading and serious illnesses can develop quickly. Patients will typically be referred to an in-patient examination.

Your child’s fever temperature is above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38.0 degrees Celsius)

Your child’s symptoms have lasted more than 10 days

The symptoms above should be treated in an emergency room or urgent care clinic: Any emergency symptom such as severe pain, difficulty breathing, chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, behavioral health issues, mental state changes, and unusual abdominal pain.
