Menopause is a natural decline of hormones and reproductive hormones in women. It is defined as occurring 12 months after your last menstrual period and marks the end of menstrual cycles. Most women begin to experience symptoms of menopause when they are between 40 and 50 years old, with the average age in the United States being 51 years old. Only about one percent of women start going through menopause before the age of 40.
