Starting on National Wear Red Day (Friday, February 7, 2014), Intermountain Medical Center is launching an effort to raise awareness about heart disease in our communities and the simple ways this deadly disease can be prevented.

Heart disease can lead to heart failure, heart attacks, heart valve problems or abnormal heart rhythms, to name a few. But some simple lifestyle changes can help reduce the risk of someone developing these problems. They include:

     - Don't smoke
     - Manage your blood sugar
     - Keep your blood pressure under control
     - Lower your cholesterol
     - Know your family history
     - Stay active
     - Lose weight
     - Eat healthy

If any one of those changes sound doable to you in 2014, let the world know by participating in the #GoRedLiveWell project. It's easy to participate, and the more people that get involved, the more awareness we can generate and lives we can save.

Here's how you can get involved
     - Wear something red
     - Take a selfie of you dressed in red (or have someone take a photo of you)
     - Post your photo to your Instagram account and include the following
~ What you commit to doing in 2014 to reduce your risk of developing heart disease
          ~ The hashtag #GoRedLiveWell

Throughout the month, Intermountain Medical Center and other Intermountain Healthcare hospitals will share photos from people around the hospital who have made a commitment to #GoRedLiveWell in 2014. Join the party and help fight heart disease.
