    10 Family Events to Celebrate Earth Day 2018

    Are you doing your part to keep our planet green? If not, don’t fear. This weekend is your chance to give back to your home planet by celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day. Bring your family out to these events that will teach you and your kids about improving the health of our planet. 

    This Sunday is Earth Day, and over 200 million people will take part from all over the world. The mission of Earth Day is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Started in 1970, the holiday raises awareness for environmental causes and has contributed to the passing of legislation about environmental issues. These events held across Utah will help educate the public about recycling, alternative energy resources, and how important sustainability is.

    Here are ten Earth-themed events throughout Utah that will you can join in on to help celebrate. Events are listed in order from northern Utah to southern Utah.


    1. Earth Day at Ogden Nature Center

    Come celebrate Earth Day at the Ogden Nature Center! Enjoy earth friendly exhibitors, demonstrations, entertainment, food, nature crafts, and fun activities. Explore the trails, tour our green buildings and learn what you can do to improve the health of the planet.

    2. Earth Day 2018 – Clark Planetarium

    The planetarium is fit for all ages who want to discover and learn about space and science. They engage audiences inside their walls and across the State of Utah in the creative process that is science through educational outreach, hands-on exhibits, on-site programming and their IMAX and dome theatres.

    3. Earth Rising – The Open Mind Foundation

    The open mind foundation is bringing a party like the Earth depends on it! Show the Earth how much you love her on Earth Day by coming to the EARTH RISING event here in Salt Lake City. You’ll experience: dancing to "Earth Vibe" music with the band Mountain Tribe and others, Ho'oponopono meditation to heal the earth with Kopo Magic, drum circle to connect with the Earth’s heartbeat, and vendors with cool stuff like shamanic crystal jewelry and organic herb starts.

    4. Party for the Planet

    Celebrate the Earth with animals, presentations and info booths where you can learn about all the small things you can do that will make a big impact on the planet. Celebrate the Earth with the Hogle Zoo with animal enrichment, presentations, and informative booths.  Learn about all the small things you can do that will make a big impact on our planet.  Learn about what you can do to help the planet and coexist with our native animals, with the help of Wild Aware Utah and other groups on site.

    5. Earth Day Spring Garden Tour

    Join Red Butte Garden for an exploration of what’s blooming throughout the garden. Walk with one of their Garden Guides to take an intimate look at the Garden and see how it has changed. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes.

    6. Special Earth Day Birding Tour

    Come enjoy Red Butte Garden’s cool morning breezes and join them for a morning walk full of wildlife activity. Bullock’s Oriole, Western Tanager, Downy Woodpecker, and American Gold Finch are just some of the many birds you’re likely to see. Bring your binoculars and drop in for one or more of the scheduled birding walks.

    7. Plant a Tree with TreeUtah

    Give Mother Nature the ultimate gift by helping plant trees with the folks at TreeUtah. Learn about how you can do your part to help the planet, and go for a nature walk and trash pick-up around the nature center.

    8. Earth Day at Swaner

    Swaner Eco Center is partnering with local organizations to provide a day of family-friendly, fun-filled, Earth-loving activities. Come check out earth/nature focused touch tables, information booths, crafts, and hands-on activities.

    9. Moab Earth Day Challenge

    Moab Solutions challenges you to join them in a countdown to Earth Day 2018 by doing cleanup work along the intown Mill Creek Parkway and trails in Mill Creek Canyon. Dedicate your time this weekend to healing the Earth from where you stand or wherever you are on the planet!

    10. Zion Canyon Earth Day Celebrations

    Bring the whole family. This is an event for everyone. The music will be live, on a stage powered by solar energy, and local bands playing folk, rhythms, and rock and roll. The goal of an Earth Day event is to educate the public about recycling, alternative energy resources, and how important sustainability is. Perfectly located in Springdale, which is an EPA Green Power Community.

    If you unable to attend any of these events, why not celebrate Earth Day by taking your family outdoors to enjoy Mother Nature’s beautiful scenery.
