Take Advantage of the Warmer Weather to Get Fit for Spring

Take advantage of the warmer weather to get fit

Warmer weather is here. The sun is shining; the trees and flowers are coming back to life. It’s time to get fit. After a whole winter of bulky coats and calorie-laden foods, you’re probably ready for a light and fit approach to life. Thankfully, getting more fit doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. With the warmer weather you can skip the gym and enjoy all that nature has to offer. With just a few changes you can use the warmer weather now to be ready for summer.

Get up early

With warmer weather comes more daylight. The sun is shining earlier and earlier. Which gives you the perfect opportunity to get up early to squeeze in a workout. Many of us find it easier to get up early for a workout in the spring and summer than we do in the winter. It’s like the sun is beckoning us to wake up. Get up early and work out before the day’s work begins.

Go outside

Spring is beautiful. Everything’s turning green. Flowers are starting to grow. Blossoms and tree buds are making their debut. Get outside to enjoy it. Take a long walk during your lunchbreak. Go cycling early in the morning. However you like to exercise, do it outside. Just remember, it’s not summer yet. You’ll need to bring a jacket and prepare for potentially bad weather.

Lighten up your food

The food we eat impacts our bodies in ways we may not understand. During the winter you probably dug into heavier comfort foods and desserts. Spring is a good time to lighten up your meals. Start taking advantage of in-season produce. Pack a salad for lunch. Start your day with a green smoothie. Swap a bowl of berries for your usual late-night snack. You can’t ignore nutrition when you’re trying to improve your health and fitness.

Plant a garden

Although it’s not for everyone, starting a garden is a great way to improve both your nutrition and your fitness. Gardening can help you burn around 300 calories an hour. If you plant the right things, it will also provide you with delicious (and healthy) fruits and vegetables throughout the summer. Gardening can even help improve your mood. Don’t let spring go by without starting your own garden.

Set a goal

Spring is the time for new beginnings. With the start of warmer weather, you have the opportunity to plan your health and fitness around a big goal. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do? A personal record you’d like to crush? Summer is a popular time for many of us to run a race or take part in a fitness event. Setting goals in the spring will help you be ready for any upcoming races or events that come up. Write down your goals and let them drive you toward better fitness.

Train with a friend

During the winter it’s easy to hole up at home and exercise to workout videos in your living room. With warmer weather, it’s easy and natural to invite friends into your fitness routine. Working out with a friend will help keep you motivated when your goals seem hard. It’s also more fun to work out with someone than it is to go it alone.

Springtime is the perfect time to work on your fitness routine. Take advantage of the warmer weather, longer days, and promise of good things to come. Not only will it help your spring to go better, it’ll help you be ready for summer and the adventures you’re bound to have.
