Intermountain Healthcare’s CEO, Dr. Marc Harrison, told Modern Healthcare magazine the new One Intermountain organization prepared the healthcare system for the future.
"We're looking to get ahead of changes roiling the industry,” Dr. Harrison told national healthcare leaders at a recent Modern Healthcare Leadership Symposium in Arizona. He said the goal is to get aligned internally so that decisions can be made more strategically and adapt quickly and communicate better with patients to deliver more efficient and effective care.
Dr. Harrison told Modern Healthcare there will be greater stewardship over quality and safety as the organization aims to establish consistency across the system. The new structure works to streamline decision-making and remove some of the barriers between clinics and hospitals, Dr. Harrison said.
Modern Healthcare said Intermountain is one of many healthcare organizations looking to make big changes in order to thrive in the changing environment and better meet the needs of patients. "As health systems move beyond initial strategies to reduce costs and improve care like shuffling supplier agreements or shifting more care to ambulatory facilities, some organizations like Intermountain are embarking on the more complex task of restructuring management and revamping corporate culture," Modern Healthcare wrote in the article.
Dr. Harrison told Modern Healthcare the One Intermountain structure is just one of many strategies the system is implementing to better meet patient needs.
