Six Intermountain physicians honored with teaching awards

Six Intermountain physicians were honored by resident physicians for their excellence as teachers for the 2019-2020 year. The awards were presented at the end of the academic year in recognition of the physicians as outstanding medical educators and role models. The six physicians recognized were chosen by Intermountain Healthcare or University of Utah residents within multiple programs and specialties.

Intermountain Healthcare Resident Program honorees:

  • Transitional Year Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award from Medical Center Transitional Year residents:
    • Jim Orme, MD, critical care at Intermountain Medical Center
    • Mike Lanspa, MD, pulmonary and critical care at Intermountain Medical Center
  • 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award from McKay Dee Family Medicine residents: Davis Ogitani, MD, hospitalist at McKay-Dee Hospital
  • 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award from Utah Valley Family Medicine residents: Brady Cox, MD, emergency medicine at Utah Valley Hospital

University of Utah Resident Program honorees from the Department of Internal Medicine residents:

  • 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award for a medical subspecialist based at Intermountain Medical Center: Sarah Beesley, MD, critical care
  • 2019-2020 Outstanding Educator Award for a general internist based at Intermountain Medical Center: Matthew Kirkpatrick, MD, hospitalist

“There is simply no higher honor than the recognition by resident physicians for excellence in teaching,” says Greg Elliott, MD, Intermountain’s medical director of graduate medical education. “I join the program directors in thanking each of these physicians for their lasting influence on young physicians.
