Hospital team helps family join grandchild’s birth through a window

Caregivers at Bear River Valley Hospital came up with a creative way to allow the grandparents of a family having a baby to see their first grandchild despite the COVID-19 visitor restrictions.

James and Leigh Hausbach were able to participate in their grandchild's birth from outside the hospital.

Keshley Rhodes (mom) and Hayden Haddock (dad) wanted Hayden’s parents, James and Leigh Hausbach, to be part of their baby’s birth. Unfortunately, James and Leigh wouldn’t be able to enter the hospital because of visitor guidelines related to the pandemic. The hospital team suggested they watch from outside the window of Keshley’s Labor and Delivery room. The hospital even provided camp chairs, a canopy, and drinks to make them comfortable.

Keshley’s mom, Tora Knowles, was able to be in the room with them to support her daughter during her labor.

When healthy baby boy Boone Haddock arrived, weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and measuring 21 inches long, James and Leigh were able to safely be involved. The say they were grateful for the extra consideration.

"They’re super positive and making the best out of the COVID situation and visitor restrictions,” says Leslee Garn, RN, Labor and Delivery manager.

Keshley said on her Instagram page, “We had family camped out there by the window in the blazing heat and Bear River Valley Hospital employees made it a point to go above and beyond to keep them comfortable, bringing them a tent and drinks…The compassion and care the hospital team showed Boone, myself, Hayden, and our families will forever be appreciated and I would very highly recommend them.”
