New caregiver jackets coming early next year; new scrub color for phlebotomists beginning October 1

Scrubs for phlebotomists are changing from tan to burgundy

Many caregivers have asked to wear branded jackets at work. In response, Intermountain has formed a special committee to ensure we have approved jackets that match our "Colors of Care" standards for caregiver scrubs. These color guidelines help us be consistent so patients and staff can easily identify our roles and decrease confusion. Additionally, phlebotomists who currently wear tan scrubs will begin wearing burgundy beginning October 1. All other scrub colors will remain the same.

More about the new jackets

The new caregiver jackets are expected to be available for purchase starting in early 2021. These new jacket designs will be available at a reasonable price, can be customized to include a name, credential, and department, and will comply with the correct Intermountain logo and style guidelines. Please don’t create your own custom designs or order jackets through unapproved suppliers.

Ordering information for the new jackets will be sent to all teams once it's ready, including access to the new ordering website. In the meantime, please adhere to the current policy about dressing for warmth:

  • You may wear solid color, long or short sleeve t-shirts under scrub tops.
  • You may also wear scrub jackets, currently approved Intermountain-branded caregiver jackets, or sweaters in the same color as your scrubs.

An example of the new scrub color for phlebotomists

After receiving lots of feedback from caregivers who wear tan and light gray scrubs, Intermountain leaders conducted surveys and gathered recommendations about possible changes. Here’s what was decided based on the research:

  • Phlebotomists who currently wear tan will be making a change to burgundy beginning October 1. Phlebotomists will be receiving additional information about this change soon.
  • There will be no change to the light gray scrub color for PCT/Aide/Transporters.  Survey results indicated a very even desire to stay with the light gray vs. a change to royal blue. Considering these findings, as well as stated concerns about replacement costs, we will not be making a change to light gray scrubs at this time. The committee that oversees scrub color recommendations will revisit these standards as needed.
