Engage in evidence-based practice with a new resource for nurses

3DRMC-ICU-Nurses

A new Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) website provides nurses with resources that bring change and improvements to help patients, families, and communities receive better care. The website helps identify best nursing practices, and using best practices helps us achieve Intermountain’s mission and expand nursing’s influence across the system.

“Evidence-based practice is critical for Intermountain’s ability to align quality, safety, and experience work, says Bonnie Jacklin, RN, executive nursing director. “Evidence-based practice is part of how nurses innovate and is in turn part of the
Nursing Professional Practice Model. Nurses can follow the defined process in EBP procedures to support safe, high-quality patient care, which creates a professional practice culture of nurse engagement, satisfaction, and experiences.”

Bonnie adds, “Nurses are in the best position to recognize and ask questions of current clinical practices. When nurses—and other caregivers—are curious and ask questions about different elements of practice, they have an opportunity to explore their questions and ideas for improving patient care and satisfaction as well as caregiver satisfaction. Resources on this site are designed to help nurses better understand the importance of evidence-based practice, including what it is, why it applies in their role, how they can become more engaged, and how to get help.”

Using the Evidence-Based Practice site, nurses can:

  • Watch microlearning videos to gain or refresh knowledge and skills related to evidence-based practice
  • Search the literature to obtain evidence to assist in answering a clinical question
  • Implement an evidence-based practice intervention using the guiding resources on the site
  • Get help by submitting a clinical practice inquiry form to the Nursing Professional Practice/ Evidence-Based Practice/Nursing Research team for help related to evidence-based practice.

Intermountain recognizes that nurses have different levels of knowledge and skills with evidence-based practice. For nurses who would like to refresh their knowledge, watching the microlearning videos is a great first step in moving toward a common baseline understanding.
