Katy Welkie, RN

Congratulations to Katy Welkie, RN, who has been named a 2022 Pioneer of Progress in the category of Health and Humanitarian Assistance.

As part of the annual celebration of Utah’s pioneer heritage, The Days of ’47 Board of Trustees honor modern-day Utahns who perpetuate a legacy of industry and integrity with Pioneers of Progress awards. The Board says the awards “honor deserving Utahns whose lives and achievements commemorate such virtuous principles of pioneering as faith, courage, industry, integrity, and sacrifice—and whose work benefits present and future generations.”

Katy is Intermountain’s vice president of Children’s Health and Primary Children’s Hospital CEO. She previously served as Primary Children’s chief nursing officer, nursing director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and a bedside nurse.

“Katy is highly respected among her peers, support staff, volunteers, and families,” the Days of ’47 website says. “It’s because of that respect that she’s been able to launch bold and innovative techniques and programs taking pediatric medicine to the highest level. She’s dedicated to the ‘Primary Promise’ of putting the child first and always by strengthening clinical quality, addressing emerging healthcare needs, and extending the excellence of Primary Children’s Hospital to children in need.”
