Free Pre-Surgery Joint Replacement Classes at Intermountain Health
It’s natural to have questions and concerns before you have a joint replacement surgery. That’s why Intermountain Health offers a FREE class where you will learn important concepts and tips to make your surgery and recovery as smooth as possible. Classes are taught by nurses that are specialized in joint replacement surgery.
This class focuses on what you need to know about:
- Preparing for your surgery
- What to expect during your hospital stay
- What is involved in the surgery
- Preventing complications
- Managing pain
- Physical therapy expectations
- Planning for a safe recovery at home
Patients that are scheduled to have a joint replacement surgery are strongly encouraged to attend this class with their caregiver that will be helping them at home following surgery.
Please bring a pen or pencil to take notes, and the educational booklet "Your Guide to Joint Replacement" (you may have received this from your surgeon's office).
Class length is about an hour.
You only need to register for one class session at the hospital where your surgery is scheduled.
Online- class participants meet online using a virtual platform (Microsoft Teams). You will need access to a device (computer, tablet or smart phone) with a webcam and microphone in order to participate in this class. Prior to the class you will be emailed instructions on how to access and participate in the online class and how to obtain class materials and resources. This is a group class. These classes are live and will not be recorded.
In-person- class participants meet in-person in a classroom setting located at the hospital in which they plan to have their surgery. This is a live group class and it will not be recorded.
