Bio
Dr. Adams earned her Bachelor of Psychology degree from Auburn University. She completed a two-year post baccalaureate NIH research fellowship at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse in Bethesda, Maryland. She earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, with a research emphasis on alcohol use disorders. During her graduate training, Dr. Adams worked in a variety of clinical treatment settings to include Moffitt Cancer Center, James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, and the Tampa Bay Family Therapy Center. She completed her predoctoral internship at the American Lake division of VA Puget Sound, with training emphases in PTSD, severe and persistent mental illness, and neuropsychological assessment. Dr. Adams completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System with training emphases in PTSD and medical psychology. In addition, she has completed specialized training in evidence-based treatments for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure. Although she has diverse clinical and research training experiences, she primarily uses empirically supported approaches (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, etc.) to treat a variety of anxiety, mood, personality, and substance use disorders.
