This is an advanced course designed to teach the student how to recognize infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest, to provide the student with strategies for preventing arrest, and to teach how to perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.  The student should have a basic knowledge of cardiac and respiratory pathophysiology, including basic ECG rhythms and pharmacology.   Emergency or critical care personnel; such as physicians, nurses, EMTs, paramedics, or respiratory therapists; and other professionals who may need to respond to emergencies in infants and children.  Syllabus will be e-mailed prior to class..   Must have current BLS certification.   Access to the AHA PALS provider manual is required.  The ECC handbook is not required but is recommended for the course (includes info for ACLS, BLS, PALS and NRP).
