My practice is head and neck surgical oncology. My particular interest, and most frequent surgeries performed, are thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. I also do the full spectrum of head and neck cancer surgery. I do a limited amount of general otolaryngology.
Personal Bio & Interests
I am a Professor Emeritus of the University of Utah School of Medicine, having worked there for 21 years until retirement in 2004. I started with Intermountain Health in August 2004, had a 3 year hiatus from medicine from 2005 until 2008, and have subsequently been an attending surgeon at Intermountain Medical Center until this time. I am fellowship trained in head and neck surgical oncology, and focus much of my current practice to helping patients with thyroid and parathyroid surgical problems. My major research interest at the University of Utah related to the use of surgical lasers in head and neck oncology. A special focus in this area has been the treatment of early cancer of the larynx I helped to pioneer endoscopic laser resection, and have taught this in many places in the world. After years in academic medicine with extensive experience in administration, research, teaching, and patient care I am happy currently to focus primarily on the latter.
