New Salt Lake Clinic will offer patients additional medical services

After nearly two years of construction, Intermountain Healthcare's new Salt Lake Clinic will open on December 17, 2012. The Salt Lake Clinic, located at 333 South 900 East, has been operating from various locations since 1915; it first opened its doors to the Salt Lake community in the Walker building downtown.  The new clinic is located on the same site as the existing clinic.

The facility will provide patients with a wide range of updated amenities and additional medical services, including full laboratory services and a pharmacy. Several new medical services will be provided, including an InstaCare (for urgent health care needs), physical therapy and home health.

As one of the largest medical clinics in Salt Lake City, the facility will house 60 physicians and 260 staff.  It is anticipated the new facility will see more than 180,000 patient visits each year. The 130,000 square foot, $55 million, state-of-the-art facility is LEED Gold certified; it has been designed and constructed in a way that conserves resources, and reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Previously offered services have been enhanced and upgraded. The Imaging department will feature full digital radiography equipment, digital mammography, and new ultrasound and MRI equipment. The Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) department will be more interactive; patients will be able to see what their physician sees during their scope procedures.

"Junior Surgeon" Computer App for Kids
A new, interactive computer application at the clinic named "Junior Surgeon" will give children the virtual capability to play ENT surgeon and "conduct" a tonsillectomy procedure or insert tubes in the ear. The integration of Mental Health services will make it possible for patients to receive counseling and medical care at the same location. Other services will include obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, neurology, allergy, and internal medicine.

The Salt Lake Clinic will merge with the Intermountain Bryner Clinic, which has been in the community for nearly 75 years. The joining of these clinics will result in the addition of six internists and seven pediatricians; pediatrics will be another new medical specialty for the Salt Lake Clinic.

Intermountain's new, multispecialty Salt Lake Clinic will provide its patients with comprehensive care and enhance the coordination of specialty care, from primary care physicians to medical and surgical subspecialists.
