Free Riverton Hospital Community Seminar to Focus on Diabetes

Riverton Hospital is hosting a free community diabetes seminar on September 24 to help people better manage the chronic disease.

The seminar will be presented by Heather Sandstrom, RPh, a diabetic educator and pharmacist at the hospital. The seminar will start at 6 p.m. and be held in the Riverton/Herriman Conference rooms at Riverton Hospital.

Living well with a chronic condition such as diabetes takes time and effort. Nearly 26 million people in the United States have diabetes, and another seven million are estimated to be undiagnosed. There are nearly two million cases of diabetes diagnosed in people over 20 every year and the numbers continue to climb, according to the American Diabetes Association.

Lifestyle intervention programs aimed at diet, exercise, and weight loss are critical in controlling the onset and progression of type 2 diabetes. These programs, and new advancements, such as new medications to control the disease, will be discussed.

The seminar is free and registration is not necessary. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, please call Riverton Hospital at 801-285-2017.
