TOSH Receives 2013 HealthInsight Quality Award for Excellence in Patient Care

For the sixth consecutive year, TOSH – The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray, has received the HealthInsight Quality award, given annually to hospitals for delivering excellent patient care and high patient satisfaction.

The award recognizes hospitals that rank in or above the 75th percentile in HealthInsight’s national rankings. These rankings are based on high levels of performance on publicly reported measures, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) quality of care measures and patients’ perception of care measures.

TOSH is the only Utah hospital to receive the award for six consecutive years. Six other Intermountain Healthcare hospitals also received the award this year: Bear River Hospital; Logan Regional Hospital; McKay-Dee Hospital; Orem Community Hospital; Park City Medical Center; and Sanpete Valley Hospital.

“It’s a great honor and a tribute to our staff for their consistent dedication to providing the highest level of care to our patients,” says Barbara Ohm, TOSH’s administrator. “We’re proud to be recognized by HealthInsight, and most importantly, to be recognized by our patients for the care we deliver day in and day out.”

Criteria for the award is based on care quality measures, a record of how often hospitals give recommended treatments known to produce the best results for patients, and Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS), a national, standardized survey of patient perspectives of their care.

Patient involvement in care is a newer focus nationally, so for the third year in a row, the award criteria include performance on patients’ perspectives in hospital care. Research has shown that high performance on patients’ hospital experiences goes hand-in-hand with excellent clinical care.

HealthInsight is a private, non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to improving health and health care in Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah.

The HealthInsight Quality Award program was launched in September 2004 to promote transparency in health care. By using available quality data to identify high performing providers and publicizing the results, HealthInsight aims to help providers improve health care and help patients become more active and informed participants in that care.

TOSH is one of the nation’s premier orthopedic, sports medicine, and physical therapy centers.
