Four Intermountain Hospitals Honored For Work To Support Organ Donation

With more than 130,000 people on the national organ transplant list, a group effort is required to make the complex process of organ donation successful. Four Utah Intermountain Healthcare hospitals are being recognized nationally for their contributions to this life-saving work.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo is the recipient of the Gold Medal of Honor for Organ Donation from the Department of Health and Human Services, while Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, and Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, are recipients of silver medals.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center is the only Utah hospital, and one of only 22 hospitals in the nation, to receive a gold medal. To receive the gold medal, Utah Valley Regional met all three award criteria, which focus on donation rate, organs transplanted per donor and the rate of donation after circulatory death. The hospital exceeded the established goal in each of those areas by at least three percent.

Intermountain Medical Center, McKay-Dee and Primary Children's Hospital were each honored with silver medals for achieving two of the three criteria.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presented awards to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Intermountain Medical Center, McKay-Dee Hospital, and Primary Children's Hospital.
