LDS Hospital To Honor Historic Career of First Female OB/GYN In Utah on Thursday

WHAT:

LDS Hospital is celebrating the storied career of Utah’s first female OB/GYN, Vicki Macy, MD. On Thursday, patients – including one family whom Dr. Macy delivered three generations of babies – and Labor & Delivery staff from LDS Hospital will gather to celebrate Dr. Macy's storied career. She is retiring this fall.

Throughout her nearly 40-year career, Macy has delivered more than 9,000 babies – the equivalent of 375 kindergarten classes – to Utah families. She’s well respected and well loved among the staff of LDS Hospital – some of whom she delivered.

Dr. Macy was the first woman admitted to the OB/GYN program at the University of Utah, and subsequently became the first woman board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology in Utah.

To honor Dr. Macy’s legacy, Labor & Deliver staff are planning to wear their scrub top backward – a practice Macy began in the early 80’s when she was the only woman in the operating room. They’ll also retire the stool Macy has used for the last 30 years.
