A newly published report called, Into the Minds of the C-Suite, identified Intermountain Healthcare as one of the top five most innovative healthcare providers in the U.S. It also ranked Intermountain as the highest in its “Elite Leadership” subcategory.
The study, conducted by market research firm peer60, is based on a recent study of 336 C-level healthcare executives from across the nation. It sought to identify the most significant challenges faced by health systems, and who executives felt were the most influential and innovative in healthcare today.
According to the study, the top five “Most Innovative Healthcare Provider Organizations” are: 1) Mayo Clinic, 2) Kaiser Permanente, 3) Cleveland Clinic, 4) Geisinger Health System, and 5) Intermountain Healthcare. A similar study was conducted this year by Intermountain through a different research firm. It also focused on top-level healthcare leaders and key influencers, finding virtually the same results. That study named the same top five organizations as “models for innovation.”
The peer60 study also identified the most innovative healthcare organizations. They focused on not only providers, but also vendors and technology firms. Study respondents identified Intermountain as the top organization in the “Elite Leadership” category, followed by Mayo Clinic, Cerner, Kaiser Permanente, Cleveland Clinic, and athenahealth. The report included a statement that Intermountain is “very steeped in data analysis and change management.”
Intermountain also ranked among the top four organizations in three other innovation categories: Highly Adaptable; Most Intuitive Models and Solutions; and Pushing the Boundaries of Quality of Care. Of the 336 executives who participated in the study, 40 percent were CEOs, 21 percent were CFOs, 19 percent were CIOs, 12 percent were COOs, 3 percent were chief applications officers, and 4 percent were other C-level leaders. An abbreviated version of the peer60 report is available at www.peer60.com/hospital-c-suite-2015.
