SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (May 20, 2016) — The Board of Trustees of Intermountain Healthcare has selected Dr. A. Marc Harrison, 52, as the new president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare when Dr. Charles W. Sorenson, 64, retires on October 15, 2016.
Earlier roles included serving as chief medical operations officer for Cleveland Clinic where he was responsible for a broad range of clinical operations worldwide, and as chairman of Pediatric Critical Care.

Dr. Harrison earned an undergraduate degree at Haverford College and a medical degree at Dartmouth Medical School. He completed a residency and an internship in pediatric critical care through the University of Utah School of Medicine, working primarily in the critical care units of Intermountain’s Primary Children’s Hospital. His wife, Dr. Mary Carole Harrison, served as the chief resident in the same program. Dr. Marc Harrison later received a masters of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University and completed additional study in management at Harvard Business School.
Dr. Harrison will assume the helm when Dr. Sorenson retires as president and CEO of Intermountain Healthcare on October 15, 2016. Dr. Sorenson will continue with Intermountain as founding director of the Intermountain Healthcare Leadership Institute, which is expected to open in 2018.
