Riverton Hospital Holding Free “Stampin’ Out Breast Cancer” Workshop on Oct 6

Brett Parkinson, MD, radiologist and imaging director at Riverton Hospital, will present information on current prevention guidelines and the importance of early detection for women over age 40 and those with a family history of the disease.

A free craft project will be available during the second hour. The workshop will be held in Riverton Hospital’s Riverton/Herriman classrooms on the first floor at the north end of the hospital, which is located at 3741 West 12600 South in Riverton, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

“Getting an annual screening mammography beginning at age 40 saves lives and helps us detect breast cancer in its most treatable stage,” says Dr. Parkinson.

“A mammogram only takes a few minutes once a year, but it could save a woman’s life,” says Dr. Parkinson.  “We want to make getting a screening mammogram as convenient as possible for women in our community. Wait times are typically very short. Once women have had a mammogram, they realize how simple it is to get one.”

The first 100 women to arrive will receive free “Paper Pumpkin” craft kits courtesy of Riverton-based Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators will help teach the craft project during the second hour.

To encourage the 27 percent of women in the southwest corner of the Salt Lake Valley who are over age 40 who haven’t had a mammogram, Riverton Hospital is sponsoring a free “Stampin’ Out Breast Cancer” workshop on Thursday, October 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.
