Organ Transplant Patients to Share Personal Journeys at Intermountain Transplant Storytelling Festival on Saturday

The Intermountain Transplant Storytelling Festival at Intermountain Medical Center gives organ donors and recipients the opportunity to share and capture their personal journey through organ transplantation.

Fifteen stories from heart, liver, kidney and pancreas donors and recipients will be shared live during the three-hour, open-house event. Attendees are invited to record their personal transplant-related stories on camera as a way of preserving their stories for generations to come.

“Stories are powerful,” said Diane Alonso, MD, medical director of Intermountain Transplant Services at Intermountain Medical Center. “The stories that will be shared at the Festival will build stronger bonds among those who have walked the path of transplantation or supported a loved one through that journey, while encouraging others to register as an organ donor. One organ donor can save up to eight lives.”

Last year, 436 organs were transplanted in Utah. Currently, there are 739 people on the waiting list for a life-saving organ.

The Transplant Storytelling Festival is held during National Donate Life month to build stronger bonds within the transplant community and  to encourage Utahns to register as an organ donor.
