Mock Crash Event Reminds Students of the Dangers and Consequences of Unsafe Driving Behaviors as They Head into Summer Break

Intermountain Medical Center’s Level I trauma team, Murray School District, and Murray City Police and Fire Departments recently conducted a mock crash to send an eye-opening and hard-hitting reminder to students about the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving behaviors as they head into the summer break.

Murray High School student leaders helped plan the event in hopes of developing safer driving habits by their fellow classmates as the summer break approaches.

The mock crash used real crashed vehicles set up on school grounds and student participants to act out roles as crash victims. Murray High School’s student body watched the demonstration and learn how emergency responders conduct rescue efforts in real-time – from the crash site to the hospital emergency room.

Car crashes are the number one killer of teens in the United States. More than 90% of all crashes are due to driver error. The top five driving behaviors killing people on Utah roads are: drowsy driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, impaired driving, and not buckling up.
