Intermountain Healthcare to become part owner of Northpointe Surgery Center in Tooele

Intermountain Healthcare will be acquiring a minority ownership in Northpointe Surgery Center in Tooele. This is part of an ongoing effort to improve healthcare affordability by creating lower-cost options for surgical care in the community.

Northpointe opened in 2014 and has nine independent physician owners. This joint venture will expand Intermountain’s surgery center network in Utah, which includes two current centers, one set to open next month in Logan and two under construction in Murray and Park City. Northpointe provides surgical care for the following specialties Orthopedics, Podiatry, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Pain Management, and Gastroenterology.

“We are pleased to partner with Northpointe to provide surgical care to the residents of Tooele County. Northpointe shares a similar focus on quality and affordability and will be a natural partner,” said Mike Clark, executive lead for ambulatory surgery for Intermountain.

“When we opened Northpointe Surgical Center seven years ago, our mission was to provide more choices for healthcare to the Tooele Valley residents. I believe we have accomplished that. The opportunity to partner with Intermountain Healthcare provided an opportunity to improve on that mission,” said Mike Griffeth, MD, Northpointe board chair. “Intermountain’s presence in Utah and their focus on patient-centered care and cost reduction align closely with our values. We feel that this partnership can only benefit our county by having more healthcare and more savings available to the citizens of Tooele County. We are very excited about it!”

The new joint venture arrangement is not anticipated to create any significant changes to the center’s operations. It will continue to operate under the Northpointe name, with the same participating physicians, the same staff and the same insurance networks as are currently in place.
