Description: This presentation will provide an overview of the known causes of human congenital and prelingual hearing loss in children. The focus of the talk will be on the genetic etiologies and the common syndromes that involve hearing loss. An overview of the more than 200 genes that cause pediatric hearing loss will be summarized. Useful resources and suggestions for when to refer to the Primary Children's Hospital Genetics Clinic and Hearing Assessment Clinic will be included.
