Description: This workshop has been designed for School Nurses to increase their knowledge and provide practical application in caring for children with diabetes in the school setting.
Program Objectives:
*Provide information and rationale for using intensive management for children with Type I and Type II diabetes
*Provide the opportunity for hands-on experience with the most current blood glucose meters
*Learn and demonstrate correct techniques with insulin; loading and programming insulin pumps
*Calculate carbohydrate grams for typical school lunches and snacks
*Improve ability to respond to situations that arise with diabetes management at school
