We are pleased to welcome Drs. Virginia Hebl, Michael McCulloch, and Nishant Sekaran to Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute.

Michael McCulloch, MD, MS, Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist

Dr. McCulloch joins our Heart Failure, Transplant, and Artificial Heart Programs. He completed his fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic.

In addition to his passion for treating heart failure patients, Dr. McCulloch has a strong interest in echocardiography and the emerging field of cardio-oncology. He is also actively involved in research, having served as an investigator in several clinical trials for heart failure patients.

Dr. McCulloch joins us from the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in Lebanon, New Hampshire, and the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. There, he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist.

Dr. McCulloch earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine where he was honored as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He continued on to Cleveland Clinic where he completed fellowships in both cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

On a personal note, Dr. McCulloch enjoys running, mountain biking, hiking, and skiing—making Utah a great fit. He and his wife, Sarah, are busy settling their two young children in their new home.

hebl-virginia-cardiologist

Virginia Hebl, MD, MS, Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist

Dr. Hebl joins our Heart Failure, Transplant, and Artificial Heart Programs and our Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) Center. She completed her training and fellowships at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Hebl joins us from the Oregon Health and Science University, where she served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. She is excited to join our community and explore Utah with her husband and two children.

Dr. Hebl earned her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota. She returned to Mayo and completed a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Science and fellowships in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant. Dr. Hebl was also part of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Program at Mayo Clinic.

sekaran-nishant-cardiologist

Nishant K. Sekaran, MD, Cardiologist

Dr. McCulloch joins our cardiology clinic and inpatient service. He completed his fellowships at Duke University.

Dr. Sekaran recently completed his cardiology fellowship at Duke University. Prior to cardiology training, he served as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, where he also received a Master of Science in Health and Health Services Research as a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar. Dr. Sekaran completed his Internal Medicine internship, residency and chief residency at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Dr. Sekaran earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and board eligible in Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. Dr. Sekaran is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the American Society of Echocardiography. When not seeing patients, Dr. Sekaran enjoys the Utah outdoors with his wife, Jami, and their two sons.
