Board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine, Dr. Allred specializes in arthroscopy and complex surgery of the shoulder and knee. He has a special interest in using advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery and regenerative medicine for the treatment of injuries in athletes of all ages. He believes that patients come first, and that clinical problem-solving begins with careful listening, observation, and examination. Dr. Allred?s approach focuses on performance enhancement, injury prevention, and maintaining an active lifestyle. He currently serves as Team Physician for the BYU Cougars.Dr. Allred's practice includes advanced techniques in arthroscopic surgery to treat shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, labral tears and shoulder separations. He also focuses on treatment of ACL tears and other knee ligament injuries, patellar dislocations, meniscus tears and cartilage injuries, and ankle ligament injuries. He is experienced in total shoulder replacement, and reverse shoulder replacement. Dr. Allred uses regenerative medicine procedures like platelet-rich-plasma (PRP), and other ortho-biologic techniques to improve healing.

Personal Bio & Interests

Dr. Allred completed his training at the prestigious Harvard / Massachusetts General Hospital fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery. Prior to this, Dr. Allred earned his undergraduate degree at U.S. Air Force Academy in 1997. He then went on to Boston University School of Medicine where he earned his MD, followed by a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Rochester. With a passion for providing care to athletes, Dr. Allred has experience working with many different professional, international and NCAA athletic organizations. He has served as team physician for the Phoenix Suns, the University of Arizona, and AHL Tucson Roadrunners. While on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, he was the head team physician for the U.S. Air Force Academy, and team physician for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the World Military Games. He also served as Assistant Team Physician for numerous professional sports teams, including the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Revolution, Rochester Rhinos, and AHL Rochester Americans.Dr. Allred is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, where he serves as a member of the Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy Program Committee. A nationally published and awarded surgeon, he received the 2017 Traveling Fellow award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
