What problems can Lifestyle Medicine address?
We can all benefit from making healthier choices. We all struggle with something from time to time, whether that is going to bed too late, sneaking an extra cookie, or skipping our evening walk to binge on our favorite show.
When our choices lead to chronic illness is when Lifestyle Medicine can help get you back on track. Just some of the areas we focus on:
- Diabetes (type 2)
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
- Metabolic syndrome
- Coronary artery disease
- Cancers that are lifestyle-associated (e.g., prostate and breast)
- Chronic pain
- Chronic autoimmune diseases
- Chronic psychological stress
Keep your Primary Care Provider and add a comprehensive lifestyle consultation.
What can you expect at a Lifestyle Medicine Consult?
Your first Lifestyle Medicine consult and evaluation with one of our providers will typically last an hour. Any follow-up visits will typically last 20-30 minutes and will help you review your progress and make any adjustments needed to your personal plan to achieve the best results.
During your first visit, we will do a complete review of your:
- Daily routine
- Sleep schedule
- Eating habits
- Physical activity
- Stress levels
- Family history
Following your initial visit, we will work on a personal action plan with you to create a path for success.
Your lifestyle action plan will include:
- Specific goals for each category
- Physical activity
- Strategies to overcome barriers that may prevent you from reaching goals.
- Arranging follow-up visits and phone calls.
- Reporting on progress.
- Creating an accountability structure with your family, friends, and our LiVe Well team.
Are Lifestyle Medicine visits covered by my insurance?
Yes, Lifestyle Medicine visits are covered by most insurance plans and do not require a referral from a physician. We encourage you to check with your insurance provider to make sure your plan covers the visit.
Some of the other services that our lifestyle medicine providers may recommend are cash-based services not covered by insurance. Please speak with a member of our team for information about cost and insurance coverage.
Can I continue to see my regular primary care provider?
Yes. Our Lifestyle Medicine consults compliment, not replace, the care you normally receive from your primary care provider. Our focus is to treat and prevent lifestyle related chronic conditions and diseases. All other chronic conditions and acute medical problems will be managed by your regular health care provider. We work with your primary care provider and staff to improve your overall health.
