JP Valin, MD

Chief Clinical Officer

JP Valin, MD, MHA, FACP, was named Intermountain Healthcare’s Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) in 2022 immediately following the organization’s merger with SCL Health. He now leads 33 hospitals and 385 clinics across Intermountain’s eight-state region.

As Intermountain’s CCO, Dr. Valin is responsible for leading clinical operations across the enterprise in order to improve equitable access to the highest quality care for patients and communities. At Intermountain, Dr. Valin is a nationally recognized leader in advancing the value-based care model. This model aligns clinical incentives with patient priorities and focuses on Intermountain’s mission of Helping People Live the Healthiest Lives Possible while ensuring affordability.

Dr. Valin previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer at SCL Health in 2018, after serving as SCL Health’s President of Medical Group and Provider Services for two years. Prior to SCL Health, Dr. Valin served at Banner Health in various leadership roles for 10 years. He practiced clinically for 15 years as both a full scope general internist and as a full-time hospitalist.

In his passion for continued research and learning, Dr. Valin graduated from Georgetown University and New York Medical College and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at New York Presbyterian - Weil Cornell in New York City. He completed the Health Management Academy - GE Fellows Program for Physician Executives and holds a master’s in healthcare administration from the Health Management Academy/University of Providence. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Valin was a recipient of the Clinician Experience Project’s CEO Award of Excellence in December 2020 and received special recognition from the Leapfrog Group for Pandemic Heroism from The Leapfrog Group. In August 2021 he received the What’s Right in Health Care® Hero Award, which is given out by Huron, a global healthcare consultancy, to honor individuals who are having a positive impact on the healthcare industry.
