Utah MESA/STEP Program
04/11/2011 - MESA/STEP began over twenty years ago as a partnership between the University of Utah and the Granite School District. At that time, there was a group of 52 students in the start-up program. Since then, MESA/STEP has grown to include seventeen school districts and charter schools, three universities and one community college.
The purpose of MESA/STEP is to increase the number of underserved ethnic minority and all female students who pursue course work, advanced study and possible careers in mathematics, engineering, and science areas. Community involvement makes the difference. By providing scholarships and interacting face-to-face with students, industry partners make a difference in someone’s life.
Since its inception, the Industry Advisory Council has provided almost $700 thousand dollars worth of scholarship money to deserving students. In 2011, Intermountain Healthcare provided scholarships to three outstanding students who elected to pursue degrees in the health sciences. These students are attending college in Utah pursuing degrees in Dietetics, Nursing, and Pharmacy.
