On July 8, 1913, the first hospital in Washington County opened in a remodeled old hotel on 100 East in St. George. The technology and facilities have changed over the years, but our dedication to meeting the healthcare needs of southern Utah has remained intact. Throughout 2013 we’re celebrating our CareCentennial with events all over Washington County as we talk a walk in each of the cities in the county. Our celebrations will culminate in a birthday celebration for the entire community on July 8 from 7-10 p.m. in the St. George Town Square, 86 S. Main, just a block away from the original hospital building.
We’re taking this chance to look back at where we’ve been and honor those who came before, as well as look forward to the next 100 hundred years of healthcare. No one knows exactly what the future will bring, but we pledge to continue to provide the highest quality healthcare at the lowest appropriate cost — ever bringing more services closer to home.
This 10 minute documentary gives a brief overview of the past 100 years of hospital history in Washington County, including interviews from historians, physicians, nurses, and others involved in advancing healthcare in our community over past century.
