Preparing for Childbirth

When you’re expecting, it’s impossible to be over prepared. Dixie Regional Medical Center’s education series for expectant mothers will help you feel ready when that happy day finally arrives. We want to ensure your pregnancy, labor, delivery, and recovery are as relaxed and positive as possible.

We offer comprehensive educational classes on many topics and at various times to accommodate difficult schedules. Below is a list of most of the classes that we offer. To sign up for a class or to find out more, please submit this form or call us at (435) 688-5343.

OB Tour: No Fee

Tours of Dixie Regional’s OB facilities are offered. Please call 435-688-4430 to check availability.

Breastfeeding Class

This two-hour class is available for mothers interested in breastfeeding. Learn how to have a positive experience and get breastfeeding off to a good start. Cost is $10.

Infant and Child Safety Class

A car seat expert will teach the proper use and installation of car seats for your child. Please bring your car seat if you have questions or would like help with installation. The two-hour class will also review the basics of infant CPR and home safety. It is a great class for anyone who help care for your child. Cost is $25.

Sibling Preparation Class

Children ages 2 to 12 may attend this one-hour class to help them prepare for their role as a big brother or sister. Each child should be accompanied by at least one adult. We also ask that your child bring a teddy bear or doll to class.  Cost is $10 first child/ $5 each additional.

Prepared Childbirth Class

A eight hour class held on Saturday. Topics include:
• Pregnancy changes
• Labor and delivery process
• Support during labor
• Pain relief options
• Relaxation and breathing techniques
• Tour of facility
• Newborn care
• Postpartum adjustments
• Breastfeeding
• Infant safety
• Car seat safety

Cost is $50. Class fee is covered by Medicaid.

Teen Childbirth Class

Traditional Child birth class that is geared toward the teen parent and their partner.

A eight hour class held once a month. Topics include:
• Pregnancy changes
• Labor and delivery process
• Support during labor
• Pain relief options
• Relaxation and breathing techniques
• Tour of facility
• Newborn care
• Postpartum adjustments
• Breastfeeding
• Infant safety
• Car seat safety

 Cost is $50. Class fee is covered by Medicaid.

  

Early Pregnancy Class

Designed for the first trimester of pregnancy. The class will go into detail about your body changes, emotional changes, and how to cope with hearing the good news of the pregnancy. We will also be talking about proper nutrition and baby growth and development during the entire pregnancy. Cost is $25.

Dad's Class

This class is about getting yourself ready, helping mom through child birth, care of the infant, caring for moms, reigniting the romance after you settle in with your baby. Cost is $25.

  • What dads offer that babies can't get form anyone else
  • What to do when someone says you are doing it wrong
  • How other men are doing it and how you can-your way
  • Juggling your new family, your job and finances
  • The challenge a new baby presents to your marriage

Childbirth Refresher

This is a 2 hour class designed for the parents who have had a child or taken a child birth class previously and would like a refresher. Cost is $25.

HypnoBirthing

This course is designed to help women achieve a deep state of relaxation. Classes will allow women to explore their fears, develop realistic expectations about the birthing process, and instill confidence in their ability to use hypnosis as a technique to minimize or eliminate pain during childbirth. This is a five-week class meeting once a week for two and a half hours. We recommend taking this class during your sixth or seventh month of pregnancy, however, it can be taken anytime. Cost is $150.

How Do I Register?

To register for a class or facility tour, please submit this form or call (435) 688-5343. Once you’ve registered, go to the Dixie Regional Medical Center cashier’s office (located at the north entrance of the 400 East Campus or on the main level at the River Road Campus) to pay the registration fee. Bring your receipt of payment to your first scheduled class.
